
fractured clouds 
a waning crescent moon
to the east, 
venus bright in 
southern skies 
offered little light 
for a three AM walk; 
air cooled by 
passing rain showers, 
I dreamed of 
sleep, 
my eyes heavy 
as night 
but open like 
fractured clouds.
