Relics

                                     Click to embiggen:

relic

collected covered buried
in boxes footprints on a beach

twig-sctratched arms
reaching for the shiny rock
where a mountain grows

we've heard the waves
and hollow rush of time
placing it absent-minded
in a pot for posterity

memories shelter quietly
buried and secret in
the art and decoration
of all our past lives:

tiny flowers bloom
with deference
never forgetting.

    1. That shell was picked up on the beach at Galveston, Texas when I was a kid. Funny how such things seem to last forever!
