These Incarnations

Click to embiggen:

(re)incarnation

my previous bones are in this grave
windowed pasts, ancestors foretold,

a mason's chisel the memory prod,
stone-washed, centuries old;

my previous bones are in this space
between ancient and new, soil and tree,

before the birth of imagination,
duly buried, forever free;

my previous bones are visitors' dreams
of disconnect and puzzled speech,

a tethered witness grasps my arm
to guide me from this desert beach;

my previous bones are in this grave
of knowledge, wisdom, pleasure, rage.
