Magpie Tales 165: Spring Tease

spring tease

when the squirrel
waited on haunches
and seagull flew
far from his element;

as the neighborhood Tom
stalked hedges and
newlyweds walked
their dog;

when clouds blotted
morning sun and
southern warmth
roiled across my skin

I knew:

this was a hint,
and I accepted
your tease.

even this temporal
portend to winter's
end is cause for
quiet elevation.
