Magpie Tales 163: Our Drowning....

our drowning

we're drawn to our sea-side nature
          for healing and pleasure;

soles on hot sand, toes dug into
          cool layers;

waves applauding the shore begging
          bodies for recompense;

furtive steps plashing timid,
          as we drape ourselves
          in false modesty

clutching an ocean of eros
          inside-out.

  1. the clarity and form of this piece are really well handled. I love the notion of "our sea-side selves", and of being drawn to something within ourselves. Nice write.

  3. Lakes, oceans, rivers ... we are drawn instinctively ... back to the womb. Lovely poem, Rick.

  8. I loved this: the waves applauding the shore, because, yes, they do that. And we are all drawn to our seaside nature. Wonderfully written.
