Magpie Tales Photo Prompt 62: Break Fast.

breakfast:
the aftermath

in the aftermath
of your calling, I

searched for reasons
and found nothing:

the separation,
your silence,
the mystery of us  - all

borne on words
of your sudden
voice.

it's the aftermath
of every calamity
that holds our eyes
to the scene

and always against
our better judgement.

  12. I love it when you dig the psychology of human behaviors this way, offering no contrived details, blurring the discipline of what a poem should be. This is a very tight poem, Rick. All words are bare and tender. Sometimes with a subject matter like this, a reader will look for the back story. But I've felt the texture even without knowing how or why it happened.

    And I can only agree:

    "it's the aftermath
    of every calamity
    that holds our eyes
    to the scene"

My favorite of yours so far.
