carrion call
highway graveyards
of deer leaping into traffic:
carrion call of species' clashing
nature cannot compete with
man-the-beast
between crow and vulture
who can say for certain
that death is inevitable
as rubber meets pavement,
a never ending
machination of movement?
Poem ©2011 R. Burnett Baker
I saw a similar scene yesterday, but she made it across with a few deft moves.
ReplyDeletethe cycle of life, but whoever spray painted the deer, they are sick (*&#(*...unless of course you phtoshopeed it...haha..seriously though, ugh...
ReplyDeleteThis is a striking picture, and a striking poem.
ReplyDelete@ Brian Miller — I think the photo has been photoshopped (but before Rick found it). None of the tags seem to actually follow the contours of the body.
I just got a notice from our little town saying to driving carefully because of the deer. They say that an average of 56 deer are killed on the roadways of Dublin, Ohio.
ReplyDeletepoor deer.. i haven't seen one yet in my year long in canada... do they really need to spray paint it rather than do something about it. you're right mr baker, man-the-beast!
