breakfast:
the aftermath
in the aftermath
of your calling, I
searched for reasons
and found nothing:
the separation,
your silence,
the mystery of us - all
borne on words
of your sudden
voice.
it's the aftermath
of every calamity
that holds our eyes
to the scene
and always against
our better judgement.

Love your stuff. I have an award for you at my blog if you wish to accept it (it will post shortly).
ReplyDeleteThis is very nice. One of your best, Rick.
ReplyDeletePerfectly posed Magpie! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love it when you dig the psychology of human behaviors this way, offering no contrived details, blurring the discipline of what a poem should be. This is a very tight poem, Rick. All words are bare and tender. Sometimes with a subject matter like this, a reader will look for the back story. But I've felt the texture even without knowing how or why it happened.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can only agree:
"it's the aftermath
of every calamity
that holds our eyes
to the scene"
My favorite of yours so far.
