relativity

from the relevance of human experience
to the relativity of human endeavor
love defines everything, even hatred.

we need only to live its dimensions
through moments of our lives,
relative to the needs of ourselves
and of others.

Adapted from an essay titled "Breaking The Dynastic Cycle:  China In An Interdependent World," by R. Baker, 1988, and
a comment  by R. Baker 7-11-11 about love to a post titled "existence" by "citybouy"

  3. Wow, a citation! Thanks Rick!

It's hard to logicize (wait, is that a word?) something that should be felt. If I were braver, I'd even say it's 100% intangible.

But I realize now that the question in my post should not be "do I exist because of his love?" it should be "am I relevant?"

captcha: undsperm (yes, all sentences should be punctuated with and sperm. haha)

  4. 'relative to the needs of ourselves
and of others' - this simply got my attention as it reflects realism that are most of the times not applied. There are always currents of deep wisdom in reading your words Rick. thank you and much pleasurable read.(:

    Brightest blessings.

  6. the painting does seem to evoke a sense of the connections between man and man and perhaps man and sea. we all rely on each other to make it through, to find love.

  9. Does hatred sprout from a garden
of sparse love, or a tub of too much
affection, where we lollygag in too
    much overkill; love defines hatred
like beauty defines bizarre and ugly.
    Good piece, sir.

  13. I like the use of the word 'dimension' here. I used to believe that life is fluid. Maybe that's for the age I am at right now. Only when I get to your sense of knowing and be able to discover the patterns of things past re-occurring, I'd probably understand that 'dimension' which you mention in this poem. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Absolutely: love defines everything. Pity hatred can stem from love, but it can. Nice post.
