I've been trying to find jean again since graduation to thank her for giving me a job that allowed me time to maintainmy grades for my scholarships and for being like a grandmother to me thought my 5 years on campus. I loved dining with her and hearing her stories and asking for her advice. I loved her very much and wish I could thank her in person someday.Jo Ann Championhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01794507126602541801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1057911927790802422.post-76116618626809303042013-04-11T09:03:09.138-07:002013-04-11T09:03:09.138-07:00I remember this and still adore it! The photograph is wonderful in its own right, but considering this was taken in 1961 it is especially compelling. I am in awe of Jean.
I am somewhat surprised that the club even thought to propose an ethnically diverse project; perhaps they were more thinking of Anglo/Hispanic diversity rather than crossing the racial divide. This would never have happened in the small town in Georgia where I lived.
Thank you for sharing this... and as Margaret said, this should have been on the cover of Life. (I also cannot believe the friend thought the boy was you... but then I'll bet it was a denial of what she was actually seeing.) I'm glad your cousin has it hanging in her office!Cheryl Catohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13294358830518520566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1057911927790802422.post-35816293613377387012011-11-04T18:44:07.838-07:002011-11-04T18:44:07.838-07:00What a great photo! She also contributed many photos of us kids that appeared in a book titled "The Developing Child" that was used as a college text book for many years. Early next year my cousin and I are going to try and find, with Jeanie's help the negatives for this entire series of lollipop photos. A retrospective of sorts....R.
